Born in a Konkani Saraswat Brahmin family, Samira has been blessed with a loving family. Her grandmothers on both sides of the family have been Indian classical vocalists. Her father was a cardiologist, but she calls him ‘The Music Doctor as he exposed her to Kishore Kumar, the Beatles & Michael Jackson. Her father loved music and his dream for his only child was for her to be a musician. Both parents encouraged her from a very young age. She started learning music when she was 3, and to date living his father’s dream.

The Journey in time

She studied Interior Designing. Even when she was in college, she was part of a band called ‘Ansh’, an Indie Pop-Rock band. After graduation, she pursued music, her first love, and started by recording vocals for jingles, ad films & radio. Her first was a jingle for ‘Big Bazaar’, which she sang along with Shaan.

First audience

Samira has been a shy girl. Her parents used to have a hard time making her sing when relatives gathered. Over the time, she started enjoying singing for people. Her extended family and friends became her first audience.

Turning Point

As she went on her musical pursuits, Samira was spotted by the Indian Jazz Gurus Louis Banks & Joe Alvarez who heard her sing at a jam session. They immediately recognized the spark in her and have been her mentors ever since.

Her first live performance was with these musical giants, Louis Banks, Joe Alvarez and the supremely talented late U Shrinivas, along with Gino Banks and Sheldon D’Silva. These humble oceans of talent have always been her inspirations.

With her dedication to music, Samira earned the honour of Performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival with some of these great personalities.

Music Career

Playback Singing

Her first playback song as a singer “Aaj Phir Tumpe” for the film “Hate Story 2”, by music director Arko, has been a huge success with around 12 million hits on YouTube.This was followed by the song “Mohabbat Barsa Dena Tu”for the Film “Creature 3D” which also became hugely popular.

Indie Music

Samira’s first song and music video as a single, “Bebasi”, brought forth her talent as a Music Composer. She has also sung the song. This was released on YouTube and MTV Indies in December 2014. This single became an instant favourite of young music lovers.

Composing for Bollywood

Samira’s composition “Maati Ka Palang” is featured as part of a film score & album for the Bollywood film “NH10”, produced by Phantom Films, Eros International & Clean Slate Productions. The film has been directed by Navdeep Singh. This film features actors Anushka Sharma and Neil Bhoopalam.
